Winnifred Stewart

In late 2022, the new CEO of Winnifred Stewart created her dream team to help move forward the strategic direction of the 70-year-old organization.

Winnifred Stewart is the original brainchild of Dr. Winnie Stewart, a long-time advocate and activist for the education and rights of people with intellectual disabilities. Now in its 70th year, the organization not only provides day programming for adults with intellectual disabilities, it also provides community-based housing, especially for aging members of its population.

Working closely with partners from Y Station and Write to Communicate, we’ve been tasked with an ambitious plan to guide the future of this prominent organization.

Our role on the “dream team” is to develop a robust foundational communications strategy and brand, while our partners from the other two companies deliver the first-ever joint strategic plan for Winnifred Stewart’s two guiding Boards of Directors.

The two processes dovetail beautifully with each other, informing the strategies in both directions. The operational joint strategic plan was ratified by the Boards in August 2023, and our communications work will follow later this year.

The next phase of this work, grounded in the legacy of the late and great Joey Moss, a Winnifred Stewart resident and well-loved member of the Edmonton Oilers support team, will be an employment program that helps to connect people with intellectual disabilities with meaningful work. We’ll be developing a storytelling campaign to support this program — please watch for it in 2024!
